Jeremiah 1:11-12 NIVThe word of the LORD came to me: “What do you see, Jeremiah?” “I see the branch of an almond tree,” I replied. [12] The LORD said to me, “You have seen correctly, for I am watching to see that my word is fulfilled.”
Why did God show Jeremiah an almond tree branch?God often speaks in symbolism, through images, visions, dreams, encounters. These images are often not far from our day to day encounters, so that we do not miss it.
For example, God can show you your pastor speaking to you in a dream, giving you guidance, but your pastor in this place represents God. This is an example of the 'dark sayings' of God.
Now back to Jeremiah, and the almond tree. The almond tree is unique in that it is the first treee that blossoms at the end of winter, just before the spring season. It's like a tree, that patiently watches, waiting for the winter to end, before it immediately releases it's white and pink leaves, blossoms it's buds and soon is the first to ripen.
The Menorah (lampstand) in the tabernacle, was also shaped in the design of the almond tree, signifying God's watching over Israel, and as well the need for the priests to come and watch, as they light the lampstand in intercession.Do you remember the incident of Aaron's rod budding.
There was a contention over who God has chosen, and the leaders of Israel brought out their rods, and placed them before the tabernacle of the Lord, and in the morning, Aaron's rod had budded - almond blossoms and fruit!
God shows Jeremiah the branch of an almond tree to tell him, that, yes, I have chosen you, you will watch over, and I too will watch over Israel, and beyond that I am watching my WORD, to see that I will FULFIL it!
My word over your life will come to pass. It will come quickly, it will ripen first, and before you know it, you shall be blossoming! Don't fear the winter, you shall bud forth soon, as the almond tree!
