1 Samuel 17:45-46 NIV David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. [46] This day the LORD will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. This very day I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds and the wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel.

In remembering the story of David and Goliath, the bible tells us that Saul gave David his armour, his shield and sword to go and fight Goliath with, however they were too heavy for David and he took them off.

He was facing a giant who had taunted Israel for 40 days, calling upon them to bring a champion to fight with him. Soldiers often fought with armour around their bodies, these would be considered the weapons of war, shield, breastplate, helmet etc. In our present times, there are bullet proofs, and armoured vehicles to protect soldiers and important persons from surprise attacks.

Armours play a very important role, however we see David’s approach as different. He put them off, and only picked 5 smooth stones and his sling and he went on to fight Goliath.

He had no physical armour as we know it, but he had the spiritual armour of God. In fact he declared it in faith, “you come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come to you in the Name of the Lord God almighty, the God of the armies of Israel whom you have defiled.”

The spiritual armour will always be more powerful than the physical armour. This is what Paul speaks to us, that brethren, let us put on the “full armour of God” for us to be able to take our stand against the devil. We must not be ignorant that we are in a war for our souls, a war against the forces of this dark world, and when we don’t put on the full armour we leave ourselves open for any and every attack from the enemy.

The Lord God himself, is our shield and armour, we shall not fear the enemy but know that the one is us is greater than the one in the world.

As you pray, ask God to help you put on the full armour of God daily for daily victory!
